Our Programs

Where do you need to start?

Residential treatment, outpatient support, and sober living — one continuum, built around recovery, designed for LGBTQ+ people by people who are part of the same community.

Recovery looks different depending on where you are right now. Some people come to Stepping Stone in crisis, needing full residential support to get stable. Some are managing their lives but losing ground, and outpatient treatment is the right fit. Some are leaving residential and need a safe place to land while recovery takes hold. Some are looking specifically for sober living as a foundation.

All of it connects. At Stepping Stone, residential treatment, outpatient support, and sober living are not separate programs running in parallel. They are one continuum, built around recovery, designed for LGBTQ+ people by people who are part of the same community.

You do not have to choose between getting help and being yourself. Here, your identity is part of what makes recovery possible.

Stepping Stone staff and community celebrating together

Affirming care

We know LGBTQ+. We welcome all.

Stepping Stone has been part of San Diego's LGBTQ+ community since 1976. Our staff includes LGBTQ+ people and people in long-term recovery. Many of us have walked through the same doors you're walking through now.

Research shows that LGBTQ+-specific treatment programs produce better outcomes. When people can be fully themselves in treatment — without explaining, hiding, or bracing for judgment — recovery sticks.

That is what we've built here. It has been working for 50 years.
